USCIS Allows Telephonic Rescheduling of Biometric Services Appointments

On May 11, 2021, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that applicants, petitioners, and beneficiaries may call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 (TTY 800-767-1833) to request rescheduling of an existing biometric services appointment. Previously, such a request was required to be submitted in writing.

Various requests for immigration benefits—most notably an I-485 Application to Adjust Status —require the collection of biometrics (fingerprints, photograph, and/or digital signature). USCIS schedules appointments at the closest Application Support Center (ASC) and generally provides at least one week advance notice. Individuals who are unable to attend their scheduled appointments must contact USCIS prior to the date and time listed on their appointment notice. Failure to attend and failure to contact USCIS before the appointment may result in abandonment of the associated immigration petition or application.

Individuals must provide a reason for the rescheduling, but there is no fee or penalty to do so. With the most recent change, USCIS believes the process of rescheduling will be more efficient, trackable, and easier for requestors.
