Saudi Arabia: Temporary Suspension of Temporary Work Visas for Select Nationalities

Saudi authorities have implemented an immediate temporary suspension on the acceptance, processing, and issuance of Temporary Work Visas (TWVs) for nationals of certain countries.

Affected Nationalities:

The suspension currently applies to passport holders from the following countries:

Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Türkiye, and Yemen.

Applications from these nationalities are not currently being accepted or processed, including cases where employers have already prepared documentation and are ready for submission.

Practical Impact:

Employers relying on TWVs for short-term assignments, project-based deployments, or rapid workforce mobilization into Saudi Arabia should anticipate:

  • Immediate filing restrictions
  • Potential project delays or disruption to planned assignments
  • Reassessment of workforce planning timelines
  • Possible need to explore alternative immigration routes, where available

Duration and Next Steps:

While the measure appears temporary, the Saudi authorities have not issued a formal public announcement confirming its duration or providing implementation guidance.

We are closely monitoring developments and recommend that employers with affected assignees review upcoming deployment plans and assess contingency options.
