Sonja Roque Cruz

Sonja is the Head of Legal – Global at Tafapolsky & Smith LLP, where she leads the firm’s global immigration strategy and provides legal oversight across cross-border workforce mobility matters. With over a decade of experience in global immigration law, she advises multinational clients on the full lifecycle of international assignments, immigration compliance, and global mobility programs.

Her core expertise includes employment-based immigration processes worldwide, such as work and residence permits, permanent residence, and global compliance frameworks. She works closely with clients across diverse industries—particularly in the technology and engineering sectors—to deliver business-aligned immigration solutions.

Sonja is also a trusted advisor on corporate immigration strategy, global policy development, and the immigration implications of mergers, acquisitions, and organizational restructurings. Her work integrates legal precision with practical business insight to support scalable and compliant global workforce operations.

Earlier in her career, Sonja practiced civil and family law for over five years as a solo practitioner in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

She holds a Juris Doctor from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (Ponce) and a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from the University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras). Sonja is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
