Alan Tafapolsky

Co-Founder (1961 – 2023)

Alan was a co-founder of Tafapolsky & Smith LLP and a Managing Partner in our San Francisco office. He was an in-demand author, speaker and teacher, and was recognized as a leading national corporate immigration lawyer who specialized in immigration issues created by M&As and other corporate restructurings; entrepreneurs and immigration; and also defending companies in immigration compliance related investigations. Alan published some of the most important and authoritative legal articles on these areas in the field.

Alan was an enthusiastic believer in balance, harmony, and walking slowly while thinking quickly. He was passionate about the role immigrants play in our economy and was the staunchest defender of the rights of all foreign nationals in the United States. He was equally passionate about all Boston professional sports teams, especially the Red Sox.

Alan was a devoted husband, father, and friend and nothing made him happier than the company of others.  He enjoyed managing his son’s baseball team, going out to eat, playing and listening to music, and biking. He loved his wife Randi and two kids, Nina & Alex, and their Portuguese Water Dog, Vinny, and Newfoundland Poodle, Mookie.

Alan is fondly remembered by all of us and we strive in everything we do to maintain the highest professional and personal standards that he required of us and, in so doing, to keep his memory alive.
