Denmark Covid-19 Regulations

  1. Entry Restrictions

International travel to Denmark is currently restricted and countries/regions are assigned a risk status that is either yellow (an open, unrestricted location), orange (a banned location) and red (designating a high-risk location).

Nationals and returning residents of Denmark can enter Denmark, regardless of whether they are coming to Denmark from yellow, orange or red countries/regions. Similarly, travelers coming to Denmark from a yellow (or open) country/region are able to enter irrespective of their purpose of travel (provided they satisfy the normal entry requirements).

Otherwise, travelers seeking to enter Denmark from orange or red countries/regions must have a worthy purpose to be permitted entry, which include the following:

  • Entry for work purposes (e.g. work permit holders, self-employed individuals, professional artists and athletes, etc.);
  • Entry for business purposes (e.g. attending business meetings, etc.);
  • Holders of a residence permit issued under the Working Holiday Scheme;
  • Provide services or engage in the transportation of goods;
  • Attending a job interview in Denmark;
  • Students enrolled at an educational/academic institution that requires the physical presence of enrolled students;
  • Trainees/Interns (provided that the traineeship or internship is a required part of a formal educational program);
  • Au-Pair placements;
  • Spouse, live-in partner, fiancé, boyfriend/girlfriend, parent, stepparent, grandparent, stepgrandparent, child, stepchild, sister, brother, stepsister, stepbrother, grandchild or stepgrandchild of a Danish national who enter Denmark together; unmarried partners and couples must provide a sworn declaration that their relationship has lasted for at least three months;
  • Spouse, live-in partner, fiancé, boyfriend/girlfriend, parent, stepparent, grandparent, stepgrandparent, child, stepchild, sister, brother, stepsister, stepbrother, grandchild or stepgrandchild of a Danish national resident in or permanently staying in Denmark or of a foreigner resident in Denmark; unmarried partners and couples must provide a sworn declaration that their relationship has lasted for at least three months;
  • Passengers in transit, provided that they:
    • transit through Denmark for the purpose of going on holiday outside Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland;
    • have a worthy purpose outside Denmark in their destination country;
    • transit through Denmark as a natural part of their homebound journey.

A special rule exists for travelers entering Denmark from border regions. If travelers come to Denmark from border regions that are marked orange, then they may still be permitted to enter Denmark if a) their travel is for a worthy purpose, or b) they possess a medical certificate (issued in either Danish, English, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish or Swedish) showing a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements

Travelers arriving in Denmark from orange (banned) or red (high risk) countries must possess a medical certificate (issued in either Danish, English, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish or Swedish) showing a negative COVID-19 PCR or antigen test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival, except for the following:

  • Passengers traveling to Faroe Islands or Greenland;
  • Passengers in transit

Passengers traveling to Faroe Islands must take a COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival at their own expense, except for passengers under the age of 12.

Passengers travelling to Greenland must have a medical certificate (issued either in German or English) with a negative COVID-19 PCR or RNA test taken within 120 hours prior to departure.

2. Quarantine/Self-Isolation Requirements

There are currently no quarantine requirements for travelers permitted to enter Denmark.
