MALAYSIA Immigration Update: Photo Validation Feature Launching on Expatriate Services Division (ESD) Online

Following the introduction of Photo Validation for eVisa online applications last month, the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) announced that a Photo Validation feature for eVisa applications will be available on ESD Online effective 21 August 2026.

The photo validation section will help ensure compliance with the photo specifications for MyVISA applications and minimize issues arising from non-compliant passport photos during the MyVISA application process.

This feature will enable applicants and employers to verify passport photos prior to submitting expatriate applications. Applicants can access a verification section on the ESD Online landing page without logging in, while employers can verify photos within the logged-in application interface before submission.

Once the feature goes live on 21 August, applicants and employers are encouraged to use it to ensure passport photos comply with the required specifications before submitting an expatriate application.

This new implementation should not impact the existing timeline for Pass processing applications in ESD. We will provide additional details as more information becomes available.

If you have any questions regarding the impact of this change on your workforce planning or Employment Pass applications, please contact the T&S APAC Team.
