The United States District Court for the District of Maryland, Southern Division, today ruled in favor of the Department of Homeland Security in Chamber of Commerce of the USA v. Napolitano, a case challenging the mandatory E-Verify rule for federal contractors. Chamber of Commerce of The U.S.A. v. Napolitano, (S.D. Maryland, 08/25/09). The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and others had filed suit in an attempt to halt implementation of the rule; once in office the Obama administration had delayed implementation several times to study the rule originally mandated by former President Bush's order. The E-Verify rule for federal contractors is currently scheduled to go into effect on September 8, 2009.
